Then, a &lt;a href=&#34;https://o-yate.net&#34;&gt;single&lt;/a&gt;, stray drop of cold water hits the glass. With standard quartz, that’s usually when things go wrong. The glass can&amp;rsquo;t handle the sudden temperature swing and it just&amp;hellip; shatters.&#xA;That&amp;rsquo;s why we don&amp;rsquo;t mess around. We use explosion-proof quartz glass for these jobs.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The science of the &amp;ldquo;pop&amp;rdquo;&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Quartz is generally great with heat, but it has its limits. In a shower, you&amp;rsquo;ve got a heating element sitting at maybe 800°C and a water droplet at 25°C. When those two meet, it creates a massive amount of localized stress.&#xA;If the glass isn&amp;rsquo;t treated, it snaps. To stop that, we use tempered quartz or reinforced coatings. It basically helps the glass spread that stress out across the whole tube instead of letting it &lt;a href=&#34;https://goldisgood.com&#34;&gt;concentrate&lt;/a&gt; in one spot.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;Staying safe when things go wrong&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;When we say &amp;ldquo;explosion-proof,&amp;rdquo; it doesn&amp;rsquo;t mean the tube is indestructible. It means that if a crack &lt;em&gt;does&lt;/em&gt; happen, the lamp fails gracefully.&#xA;Instead of spraying shards of glass everywhere, the reinforced material is designed to contain the halogen gas and the filament. We also seal the end-caps tight. This keeps moisture from sneaking into the filament chamber, which is the fastest way to burn out a lamp prematurely.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The trade-offs&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Nothing is free in engineering. Adding those safety coatings does change how the heat moves.&#xA;The glass isn&amp;rsquo;t quite as &amp;ldquo;clear&amp;rdquo; for infrared light as raw, thin-walled quartz. You get a much safer product, but you might lose a bit of heat punch. To fix that, we usually just bump up the wattage or move the lamp a little closer to the user.&#xA;One last thing: keep an eye on your ventilation. If you tuck these into a tight space with no airflow, the ambient heat will eventually eat away at the plastic housing. Make sure your fixture can breathe, or you&amp;rsquo;re just trading one problem for another.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
