
Making Bathroom IR Heaters Warm, Not Blinding
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. Infrared heaters are great because they give you that instant, cozy warmth, but there’s a catch: if you don’t get the light right, they can be blinding. Especially if you’ve got kids or babies in the house, you can’t just have a giant, glowing heat lamp staring them in the face. The battle with the glare Standard short-wave lamps are basically spotlights. They’re bright, harsh, and can really strain your eyes. To fix this, we use special quartz coatings on the glass. Think of it as a filter. It blocks out that aggressive blue light but lets the heat slide right through. You get all the warmth, but none of the “I can’t see” glare. What’s happening under the hood We use high-purity quartz tubes for a reason. These things go from ice-cold to scorching in seconds, and cheap glass would just crack under that kind of pressure. Now, here’s the tricky part. If we crank up the wattage to get more heat, the light tends to get shorter and harsher. It’s a balancing act. To keep things safe, we use reflectors that push the heat down toward you, rather than letting the light blast directly into your eyes. Getting it installed (and avoiding the meltdowns) Most of these are designed to just pop right into your existing fixtures. It’s a quick job. But you have to be careful about the “thermal footprint.” Because these lamps concentrate a lot of heat in one tiny spot, the housing around them needs to be tough. If you put a high-wattage lamp in a cheap plastic enclosure, you’re going to have a bad time—literally. The plastic can warp or, worse, the internal wiring can overheat. Ventilation isn’t just a suggestion here. It’s a must. Give the unit room to breathe, and it’ll keep you warm for years.
