
Keeping Your IR Heating Clean Enough for Class 100
When you’re building biosensors, there is zero room for error. Seriously. One tiny flake of dust or a microscopic piece of debris from a heating element is all it takes to kill a wafer or mess up a biological assay. If you’re trying to hit those Class 100 (ISO 5) specs, you can’t just use any old lamp. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz.
Why the material actually matters
Here’s the thing: standard glass or cheap quartz starts to “off-gas” and shed particles the second they get hot. It’s a nightmare for a cleanroom. We use high-purity fused silica because it basically doesn’t move. It has a near-zero coefficient of thermal expansion, which is a fancy way of saying it won’t crack or flake, even when you’re cycling the heat up and down rapidly. We also scrub every bit of organic residue off during manufacturing. So, when you flip the switch, nothing volatilizes. No smoke. No dust. Just heat.
Getting the temperature just right
Heating biosensors is a delicate balancing act. If you go too hot, you fry the protein or chemical layer. Too cold, and the curing just doesn’t happen. Our lamps use short-wave IR, which means the energy hits the substrate fast and deep. You get a ton of heat density without needing a massive footprint. But a word of warning: these things ramp upfast. If your PID controller isn’t tuned for that kind of speed, you’re going to overshoot your target and ruin your sensors. Keep a close eye on your settings.
Making it work in your space
We designed these units to be a simple drop-in replacement. No headaches. The connections are fully sealed so you don’t have to worry about halogen gases leaking out. We also ditched the adhesives and coatings—those things always end up peeling off eventually, and in a cleanroom, that’s a disaster. The end result?
