
How to pick the right heater wattage for your bathroom
If you’ve ever stepped out of a shower into a freezing bathroom, you know that feeling. It’s miserable. You want warmth, but you don’t want to torch your electricity bill or turn your bathroom into a sauna. The trick is getting the wattage right for your specific space. Here is the thing about infrared: it doesn’t actually “warm the air” like a space heater does. Instead, it beams heat directly onto you. Because of that, the distance between the lamp and your skin is everything.
Matching the power to your space
If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room (anything under 4 square meters), you don’t need a monster. A single 400W to 600W lamp usually does the trick because the heat has nowhere to go—it just bounces around and keeps you cozy. For a medium-sized bathroom (around 5-10 square meters), you’ll want to bump that up to 800W or 1200W. If you go too low here, the heat just fades away before it even hits the floor. Then you’ve got the big, luxury baths—the ones over 10 square meters. In those cases, one lamp isn’t going to cut it. I’d suggest putting in a few 1000W units and spreading them across the ceiling so there aren’t any “cold spots.” Just be careful not to overdo it. Putting a massive heater in a tiny room is a quick way to burn out your bulbs and make the space feel stuffy. On the flip side, a weak heater in a huge room will just run at full blast all day and never actually get you warm.
Don’t forget the steam
Bathrooms are wet. Really wet. That’s why you need an IP65 rating. It’s basically a fancy way of saying the unit is sealed tight against steam and splashes. We use tempered glass and gaskets to make sure the electrical bits stay dry and safe. One quick tip: higher wattage means more heat, not just for you, but for the fixture itself. If you’re tucking a 1200W unit into a tight ceiling, give it some breathing room. If it’s pressed right up against thick insulation, it can overheat, and that’ll kill the lamp way faster than it should.
A heads-up on your wiring
Short-wave infrared is great because it’s instant. You flip a switch, and you feel the heat immediately. But that instant hit puts a lot of pressure on your circuit breaker. If you’re planning to install four 1000W units in one room, double-check your amperage first. You might need to upgrade your wiring or figure out a way to stagger how they turn on so you don’t trip the power the moment you step into the room.
