
How to actually keep a wet changing room warm

Dealing with the water

The nitty-gritty (and the warnings)
We push these elements hard to get that “luxury hotel” feel. But that means we have to be careful with the voltage so the filaments don’t burn out too fast. We also use reinforced reflectors to push the heat down where people actually are, rather than wasting it on the ceiling. But here’s the thing: you have to be smart about where you put them. Because the heat is so intense, you can’t just slap them anywhere. Mount them too low or too close to a plastic fixture, and you’re going to melt something—or trigger the fire alarms. Also, make sure your electrician uses the right wiring gauge. These units pull a lot of current, and you don’t want your conduits overheating behind the wall.
Making it work in the real world
If you’re still using those old, loud blowers, these are a breath of fresh air. They take up way less space and, more importantly, they don’t blow dust and moisture all over the guests. The best way to run them is with a motion sensor or a timer. That way, you aren’t paying to heat an empty room.
